Excursion Tips:

• Exercise good judgment.
• Avoid dressing like a tourist to deter pickpockets.
• Never carry large sums of money.
• Keep valuables in a money belt, neck pouch, or secure bag.
• Don’t carry your passport unless you are leaving the country. Store it safely as directed by your faculty or on-site director.
• Use the buddy system, even during the day.
• Abide by the laws of the country where you are; American laws will not protect you abroad, nor can they help get you out of trouble.
• Share travel plans with your director & leave contact information.
• Know how to use a pay telephone and know the emergency contact number for the country.
• Learn a few phrases in the local language in case you need help.
• If you are confronted, don't fight back. Your money and passport can be replaced.
