Preparing for Departure
Required Travel Documents
- Passport, Apply for a passport
Before you leave.....
- Make copies of travel documents, credit cards, debit cards, and IDs – leave a set with your family and take one.
- Fill in the emergency information page, in your passport!
- Visa
A visa is a sticker, stamp, or paper attached to your passport that allows you to enter a country for a defined period of time for tourism, business, or studies. Most consulates allow you to apply up to 90 days before you depart and you must have your passport in order to apply. You could be sent back or fined if you don’t meet entry requirements.
Depending on what country you plan to visit the
Auburn Abroad Office may be able to assist you with your
application. For all countries other than Italy and Spain please
check the
Department of State for other visa requirements.

Medications
- Take enough for the duration of the program plus two weeks – medications can’t be mailed.
- See section on “Steps to Taking Prescriptions Abroad”.
- Keep all drugs in their original containers.
- Take a first-aid kit, including band-aids, Neosporin, anti-diarrhea medicine, and sinus or allergy medicines.
