Korea Center-King Sejong Institute celebrates Korean pop music

AUBURN, Ala. – The Korea Center-King Sejong Institute in the Office of International Programs has partnered with Auburn Global and the Cross-Cultural Center for Excellence to celebrate and share Korean pop music with a K-pop party on Saturday, April 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the Telfair B. Peet Theater on Auburn University’s campus. The event is free, and all Auburn University students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend the celebration.

This year, the K-pop party will serve as a celebration of Korean pop music as well as a contest for individuals wishing to display their musical talents (i.e. sing, dance and/or play an instrument). Those interested in participating in the contest can register as a solo, pair or group. To register, visit https://aub.ie/kpop and fill out the required information by Monday, March 25.

Once all performances are complete, the audience will vote on the first, second and third place winners. First place will receive an iPad mini, second place a set of Bose headphones, and third place a Bluetooth speaker. In addition to the contest performances, there will also be special musical guests at the beginning of the event and during intermission.

Korean pop music gained its popularity in the early 1990’s. Then, thanks to the development of social networking services and online video sharing platforms like YouTube, the Korean entertainment industry and K-pop reached a global audience.

If there are any questions about the K-pop party, please contact the Korea Center-King Sejong Institute at auksi@auburn.edu.
