Korea Festival at CityFest Headlines Korea Center’s Spring Programming

The Auburn-Keimyung Korea Center and King Sejong Institute will offer a full slate of programs this spring, headlined by the Korea Festival at Auburn CityFest.

The Center’s popular Korea Festival will join forces with the City of Auburn this year to widen the festival’s reach in the community. The Korea Festival will be located in the Children’s Imagination Station section of CityFest at Keisel Park April 29 and will offer activities such as make-and-take crafts, calligraphy, a photo booth with traditional Korean clothing, drumming and more. All activities are free and available to all ages.

Also new this spring is the Korea Center Speakers Series. On March 5 at 2 p.m. Sunglim Kim, assistant professor in art history and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Dartmouth College, will give a lecture titled “Searching for Self Identity: Korean Art from the 1960s to the 2010s.” The talk will take place at the Jule Collins Smith Museum, complementing the current Jiha Moon: Double Welcome, Most Everyone’s Mad Here exhibit.

On April 6 at 6 p.m. Doug Coutts, former United National humanitarian coordinator and World Food Programme Representative in Pyongyang, will present a lecture titled “Hunger and Politics Inside North Korea: A Riddle, Wrapped in a Mystery, Inside an Enigma?” The location for talk lecture will be announced at a later date. Each talk in the series will be followed by a reception.

Students, faculty and staff wishing to practice Korean language skills in a fun, informal environment are invited to Café Korea in the Foy Hall lobby March 8. The event will feature light refreshments and a special musical performance. The popular K-Pop Party featuring music and dance performances by students will take place April 7. Times for these two events will be announced.
