Twenty students preparing for their freshman year at Auburn participated in the fifth annual Pre-Freshman Study Abroad Program in Belize July 23 through 30. Sponsored by the Office of International Programs, the program gives students who will begin their freshman year in the fall an opportunity to earn two credits in the class Historical and Modern Sustainability Issues while experiencing a taste of life outside the U.S.

Activities included lectures by Auburn and University of Belize faculty; city tours of Belize City, Belmopan, and San Ignacio; a visit to the Belize Zoo and local Mayan sites; and snorkeling at the marine reserve off San Pedro.

The program was led by Andrew Gillespie, assistant provost of International Programs and professor in the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; Wayde Morse, associate professor of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources in the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; and Abbie Naglosky, Auburn Abroad coordinator in the Office of International Programs.
