International Students and Scholars Orientation

International Graduate Student orientation will be held with the Graduate School’s orientation on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Orientation for Undergraduates, Exchange students, and late arrivals will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013.

Check-in begins no more than 30 days before the start date on your I-20. You must notify the signer of your I-20 via e-mail intledu@auburn.edu or fax (1-334-844-4983) if you will be arriving late. Classes begin Wednesday, January 9, 2013.

NEW & TRANSFER STUDENTS (F & J)

  • At orientation you will receive valuable information about insurance, driver's licenses, keeping your status and other important details. You will learn how to apply for a Social Security number and fill out the necessary employment documents if you have an assistantship. Check-in should occur within five days of arrival in the United States.

  • All new and transfer international students must bring their passport, I-94, I-20/DS-2019 and any other immigration documents to check-in at 228 Foy Hall between the first day of arrival at Auburn University and the first day of school.
  • Full-time enrollment for graduate students equals at least nine semester credit hours and for undergraduate students equals at least 12 semester credit hours. Anything less requires written permission each semester prior to registration or when dropping courses below these hours. Please check with ISSS for further information.
  • For the Social Security Card Application, you must have employment verification letters verifying your status and eligibility for employment from your department (using the department's letterhead), and from ISSS before you can participate in the application sessions. Someone will be on hand at check-in to assist with Social Security applications. You will need to be in the U.S. a minimum of 10 working days before you are allowed to apply for a number.
