Faculty Grants Programs – Fall 2011 |
Study Abroad Development Grants:
The Office of International Programs announces a new grant competition for the development of faculty-led study abroad programs. This program will provide grants to individual faculty or small faculty groups representing departments to increase study abroad participation. These seed funds are to be used to develop new programs which will be integrated into departmental curricula in ways that promote academic and financial sustainability. Priority will be given to departments and programs that do not yet have established alternatives for their majors. Study abroad programs should be strategic, articulating with an established plan for internationalization within a college or department, and integrated into the department’s offerings so that students can participate without adding to their time to graduation. Faculty should develop programs in collaboration with their departmental colleagues, heads, and College/School academic leadership. Submissions will be shared with Colleges/Schools to facilitate coordination.
Awards will be in the range of $5000, typically used for international travel to establish academic programming and program logistics. Proposals should not exceed two pages and must be submitted to OIP by December 1, 2011. A proposal should include:
-
A description of the program or course being proposed and where it fits into the curriculum and departmental or college plans for internationalization;
-
An outline and timeline of the activities to be undertaken under the grant;
-
A projection of the number and type of students who will participate in the program; and
-
A budget outlining grant expenses. Budgets can include travel and incidental supplies. No equipment or salary will be covered without prior approval. Cost-sharing is encouraged but not mandatory.
Student Exchange Development Grants:
The Office of International Programs announces another new grant competition for the development of student exchange programs with overseas universities. Exchange programs are essentially cost-neutral for students, with the addition of airfare, and provide a low-cost alternative for studying overseas. Tuition-based exchange programs are now possible with overseas partner institutions and this grants program will provide grants to individual faculty or small faculty groups representing departments to increase overseas study, internship, or research experiences for Auburn students. These seed funds are to be used to develop new exchange programs which will be integrated into departmental curricula to allow Auburn students to receive credit toward their degrees. Priority will be given to departments and programs that do not yet have established alternatives for their majors. Exchange programs should be strategic, articulating with an established plan for internationalization within a college or department, and integrated into the department’s offerings so that students can participate without adding to their time to graduation. Such strategic relationships should also provide for research and other collaborations among faculties. Faculty must develop exchange programs in collaboration with their departmental colleagues, heads, and College/School academic leadership. Submissions will be shared with Colleges/Schools to facilitate coordination.
Awards will be in the range of $5000, typically used for international travel to establish academic programming and program logistics. Proposals should not exceed two pages and must be submitted to OIP by December 1, 2011. A proposal should include
-
A description of the exchange program being proposed and where it fits into the curriculum (the optimal semester);
-
An outline and timeline of the activities to be undertaken under the grant;
-
The type or major of students who will participate in the exchange program; and
-
A budget outlining grant expenses. Budgets can include travel and incidental supplies. No equipment or salary will be covered without prior approval. Cost-sharing is encouraged but not mandatory.
International Collaborative Teaching Grants:
The Office of International Programs announces another new grant competition for the development of concurrent international linkages within on-campus courses. Recognizing that not all students have the opportunity to study overseas, OIP seeks to link Auburn classrooms with classrooms around the world through technology. As sister institutions overseas are often teaching similar material to similar students, we seek to connect our students to their international peers to learn together through joint lectures, projects, performances, design groups, discussion groups, and other pedagogical methods suitable to the particular course and instructor. International collaborations might use asynchronous and/or synchronous platforms, course management software, shared workspaces, whiteboarding applications, web conferencing software, and/or similar products. This seed grant program will provide funds to individual faculty, or small faculty groups representing departments, to create these international experiences for our Auburn students on campus.
Awards will be in the range of $5000, typically used for international travel to establish collaborative academic programming and program logistics. Submissions will be shared with Colleges/Schools to facilitate coordination. Proposals should not exceed two pages and must be submitted by December 1, 2011. A proposal should include
-
A description of the collaboration being proposed and what course(s) will be linked to an overseas partner(s);
-
A description of the overseas partner and the technology platforms to be used;
-
An outline and timeline of the activities to be undertaken under the grant;
-
The level and major of students who will typically participate in the course; and
-
A budget outlining grant expenses. Budgets can include travel and incidental supplies. No equipment or salary will be covered without prior approval. Cost-sharing is encouraged but not mandatory.
