At the time of putting together this page, Mississippi had two co-champion longleaf pines; one in Covington County and the other in Jasper County. However, it is my understanding that Covington County,longleaf pine is dead. I'm awaiting verfication from the Mississippi Forestry Commission.

Jasper County Longleaf Pine

Circumference = 115 inches
Height = 105 feet
Crown Spread = 43.5 feet
Score= 231

Comments; found within an old, natural stand of longleaf pine about 1 acre in size. Tree is estimated to be over 300 years old. Part of the crown is missing and that which remains is flat topped. Tree has fire scars present.

Location: Jasper County, MS, Go south about 5 miles leaving Bay Springs on old highway 15. Just north of the Salem Baptist Church on the right hand side of road. S10, T1N, R10E

Covington County Longleaf Pine (possibly deceased)

Circumference = 115 inches; Height = 110 feet; Crown Spread = 50 feet; Score= 237.5; Comments; Was national champion longleaf pine tree at one time. Was estimated to be over 300 years old.
