Champion Longleaf Pine Trees
This
section is dedicated to the giant veterans of a forest type that was once
the pride of the South. The following describes the champion longleaf
pine trees that still exist within the natural range of the species. Although
they are anomalies today, entire forests containing such immense trees
were once common across the landscape of the southeast.
The
Longleaf Alliance is not in charge of coordinating the champion tree programs
for the various states described. Each state has its own program director
and the nomination of any new trees must go through them. However, the
Longleaf Alliance has an interest in keeping track of these big longleaf
pine veterans or any new champion longleaf nominated. If you have pictures
or stories of any the champion longleaf pine described (or any past champions),
feel free to contact us and we'll get the information up on the website.
