Experience

  • Faculty member in the Department of Agricultural Economics & Rural Sociology since 1985.
  • Conducted research on marine fisheries and coastal aquaculture as a Research Fellow first at the International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management (1979-1982), and then at the Marine Policy Center, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (1983-1985).
  • Dr. Bailey has been working with faculty in the School of Forestry & Wildlife Sciences on forestry and rural development since 1992.


Research Interests
Primary research interests are in the sociology of natural resources and the environment, focusing on:

(1) problems of persistent poverty associated with resource dependence and
(2) the emergence of a grassroots social movements related to a wide range of environmental and natural resource issues.
