Welcome
to the Forest Policy Center web site.
FPC is a research and outreach center whose purpose is to explore the fundamental
forest policy issues affecting the United States in an increasingly globalized
economy. Located in the US South where private forestland ownership dominates,
the Center envisions expanding the scope of forest policy debate from one emphasizing
public lands issues, to one in which private land ownership issues are also thoroughly
examined.
Our
Mission - We seek to assist policy makers, business people, non-governmental
organizations, the media and the public in evaluating policy options by
providing objective analysis of forestry issues. We intend to examine,
document, and debate forest policy issues, especially those related to
the linkages between private forest management and society. Economic globalization
and global environmental quality concerns present constraints and opportunities
to local, regional, and national forest economies and their examination
will become a focus of FPC activities.
Who
We Are -
FPC is a group of research and extension faculty, post-doctoral fellows,
and graduate students with experience and interests in forest policy. Senior
scholars represent a broad range of academic interests including, economics,
political science, sociology, law, and finance.
Look for information at this site regarding ongoing research at the Center, articles describing the results of completed work, and plans for upcoming outreach activities used to communicate what we're doing and gather additional information from the public.
