Assistant Professor, Business and Office Education

DESCRIPTION OF THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Vocational and Adult Education offers degree programs from the undergraduate through the doctoral level. Areas of emphasis include: Adult Education, Agribusiness Education, Business and Office Education, Marketing Education, and Trade and Industrial Education.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The appointment will involve: (1) conducting research and development activities in vocational and adult education and contributing to the mission and activities of the College of Education, (2) teaching, recruiting, and advising undergraduate and graduate students in business and office education, (3) carrying out extension and public service activities, (4) developing and securing contracts and grants, and (5) working cooperatively with the State Department of Education, related agencies, business, and industry groups.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

I. Academic Preparation:

Earned doctorate in Business and Office Education or earned doctorate within the field of vocational-technical education with an emphasis in business and office education at the pre-doctoral levels that will meet state teacher educator requirements.

II. Required Professional Experience and Performance:

Minimum of one year of successful teaching at the secondary level in business and office education and/or one year of experience in higher education in business and office education including supervision of student teaching.
Scholarship through research, publications, and invited papers.
Potential to teach graduate courses, serve on doctoral committees, and direct graduate research.
Demonstrated ability to conduct preservice and inservice workshops.
Affiliation with professional organizations in the field.
Demonstrated computer and telecommunications skills.

III. Preferred Qualifications:

Postsecondary experience.
Experience with business and industry.
Success in securing contracts and grants.
Marketing education preparation.
Success in advising student organizations.

ACADEMIC RANK: Assistant Professor

SALARY: Dependent upon qualifications

APPOINTMENT: Nine-month tenure-track position beginning fall quarter, September 16, 1998, or when position is filled.

BENEFITS: Benefits include: Health and life insurance; Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA); College Retirement Equities Fund (CREF); Alabama Teacher Retirement; Social Security (cost of each of above shared by Auburn University); and sick leave.
