THE BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAM

We invite you to join us in Business Education at Auburn University. Here you will acquire the skills that are necessary to prepare people for work in a wide choice of occupations in our nation's businesses.

WHAT IS A BUSINESS EDUCATION TEACHER?

As a Business Education teacher, you will guide the learning process of youth and adults who are interested in some phase of business. You will prepare high school students for a variety of jobs in the nation's businesses. The Alabama high school business teacher instructs students in the following general areas:

HOW DO YOU BECOME A BUSINESS TEACHER?

If you find business courses interesting and challenging, them you should consider the field of business teaching. You may start your career in business at the high school, junior college, technical college, or university level. If you have taken any business course such as typewriting/keyboarding; Lotus 1-2-3; Database Managment, or word processing, you may already be acquiring the skills needed to become a business teacher!

With an undergraduate degree in Business Education from the Vocational and Adult Education Department at Auburn University, you will be qualified to teach at the high school or vocational high school level. You will be qualified to teach such subjects as keyboarding, word processing, microcomputer applications, business law, and accounting.

WHAT WILL YOU STUDY?

A total of 211 hours is needed for graduation. The curriculum consists of:
  1. 86 hours of general course work (English, history, math science, etc)
  2. 40 hours of professional education courses
  3. 75 hours of technical business course, and
  4. 15 hours of internship
Either Dr. White or Dr. Ellis will be assigned as your advisor when you enter Auburn. Your Advisor will assist you in planning your program, in registering each quarter, and with any other problems you may encounter. The University and the College of Education have many scholastic support services that help students.

Each year in Alabama, as well as in the nation, the demand for business teachers is high. Excellent job opportunites are available upon graduation. Each year new teachers are needed to replace those teachers who are being promoted, retired or who have entered other work.

In addition to teaching, the Business Education graduate enjoys numerous other employment opportunites. Employers actively seek Business Education graduates for a variety of interesting postions including:

Once you have obtained your undergraduate degree in Business Education, your career developement does not have to end. Graduate students in our Department can obtain the following degrees in Business Education: A graduate degree may qualify you to teach at the junior college or college level.
