| Assessment Interview
Instrument
by Donna Galbreath Abstract Prior to a client/consumer seeing a vocational rehabilitation counselor and/or a job coach, an assessment interview with a work preparation technician (WPT) can be a viable option for gaining knowledge about a client’s/consumer’s pre-vocational skills and abilities. The assessment interview would consist of a client/consumer filling out a general job application form in order to ascertain the client’s/consumer’s ability to fill out a job application. Next, the WPT would verbally ask the client/consumer pertinent pre-employment discussion questions in order to ascertain how the client/consumer views the world of work and the level of employment skills the client/consumer possesses to gain and maintain employment. After the client/consumer fills out the job application form and answers, to the best of his or her ability, the pre-employment discussion questions, the WPT will write and submit a report of the assessment interview to the vocational rehabilitation counselor, and if necessary, recommendations that the client/consumer must fulfill for the purpose of ultimately gaining employment.
