Field Project Showcase

| Staff Training
for WIA / EST
by Renee Easterling Abstract The initial intent of the field project was to create a PowerPoint presentation offering an overview of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), with emphasis on the WIA Out-Of-School Youth Employability Skills Training (EST) Program developed by the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS). The anticipated outcome of the project was to create a better understanding on the part of the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Counseling staff regarding WIA and the EST program, thereby promoting more coordinated and streamlined services for youth customers through the cooperative efforts of both the VR and EST Counselors. Actions taken to date include completing and reviewing Professional Teaches PowerPoint XP, an interactive tutorial; organizing information on WIA and the EST program for presentation text; and developing and adjusting the PowerPoint presentation. The approximate time taken for completion of the project to this point is estimated at a total of 30 hours, with 10 hours spent on the PowerPoint tutorial, tutorial review and adjustments to the presentation, including design, text and clip art; 10 hours spent on gathering information and inputting text into the presentation; and 10 hours spent on the development and organization of ideas.
