OnCampus Dates August 25 - 29, 2003 February 9 - 13, 2004 July 26 - 30, 2004 Academic Certificate Program in Community Employment Services Mission: to improve the employment outcomes of people with disabilities by increasing the competencies of employment services personnel in Region IV (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee). Recruitment and Selection of Students: Employment services personnel (i.e., job coaches, employment specialists, job developers, rehabilitation counselors) employed by Region IV's 12 State Vocational Rehabilitation Agencies (and their affiliated programs) are targeted for participation in this educational program. Curriculum Design and Delivery: Each 3 semester credit hour course requires a minimum of 30 class hours on-campus, a 30 hour field project, and completion of various other assignments via distance education. Students who successfully complete all three courses are awarded an Academic Certificate in Community Employment Services.
This foundation course examines various medical and cultural aspects of disability with emphasis on the historical and legislative base associated with providing community employment services for people with disabilities.
This course examines the multiple roles, responsibilities, and skill needs of employment service practitioners with respect to consumers (assessment, job matching, and placement) and employers (development, marketing, and consultation).
This course teaches students to identify, plan, coordinate, and provide individualized supports and services needed by people with disabilities (and their employers) to assure long-term job retention and career opportunities.
