The Community Garden at the Cultural Center is open and provides dedicated space for children in the Sprout's Garden. The remaining space is available for leasing by all residents of Lee County on a first come, first serve basis. Opelika Grows members plant non-leased space and produce yields are donated to the Community Market.
Interested in a plot? Go to our Get Involved page for information.
Lease revenues cover the cost of irrigation and pre-season fertilization. Opelika Grows team members monitor the garden to ensure that all plants receive at least 1" of water per week. Plants are watered at the beginning, middle and end of the week as needed. A filled rain barrel is available for supplemental use, as needed, by all.
Join us at 10:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month. Opelika Grows members hold gardening workshops for adults and lead children in our Sprouts program. All events are open to the public. Check us out on Facebook at Opelika Grows for a calendar of events.
Through our Sprouts Program, we grow more than produce. We grow gardeners, too. Opelika Grows team members lead children of all ages on a developmentally appropriate exploration of topics foundational to a life-long appreciation of gardening. Sprouts complete take-home products and tend to the Sprouts Garden, a 13' x 32' plot. Joining Sprouts is free and open to all local children. Registration is NOT required.
