Second Saturdays at Community Garden
Join us on the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. across from the Cultural Center--1103 Glenn St. in beautiful Opelika, AL.
Presenters share expertise on a seasonally related topic each month and children can join the Sprouts where they will learn and grown in the Kids Garden. Vendors and the curious are welcome. Opelika Students Learn while Serving
In fall 2013, students from Southview, Northside and Opelika Middle School seeded, transplanted and harvested cool weather crops—including broccoli, collards, bibb and romaine lettuce and snap peas. By semester’s end they donated 85 lbs of vegetables to the Commuity Market of the East Alabama Foodbank.
School Gardens
Opelika City School gardens showcase produce and ornamental plants, serving as outdoor classrooms for K-8 school children.
Community Garden
The Community Garden sits across from the Cultural Arts Center on Glenn Avenue. Residents and businesses may lease plots and everyone is invited to our mid-monthly Saturday gatherings.

OUR VISION
As an effort in localism, Opelika Grows seeks to model an approach to civic engagement that relies on local capital and capacity to address local needs. School reform, hunger relief and city beautification are not specific to any one city but every city has the potential to leverage the learning potential of gardens in service of community need.
