Regulations for LRC Materials
CHECKING OUT LRC MATERIALS:
- Read the "LRC Circulation Policy"
- Present a valid Auburn University ID to check out materials from the Learning Resources Center.
- The ID card holder is responsible for all LRC materials checked out on his or her card. A lost ID card should be reported immediately to the ID TigerCard Center so that further charges on that card can be blocked.
- The LRC Staff reserves the right to refuse to check out material(s) to an ID card that is presented by someone other than the owner of the ID card.
- The person to whom material(s) is/are charged is responsible for paying all overdue fines and/or charges and processing fees for damaged or lost materials.
- All LRC items checked out from the LRC Collections must be returned to the LRC,3408/ 3410 Haley Center. A $1.00 per item charge is assessed for items not returned to the LRC.
- Patrons will not be permitted to check out LRC materials under the following conditions:
$1.00 fine not cleared
- University faculty/staff should notify the LRC to clear their LRC obligations when terminating employment with the University.
- A disagreement about an overdue fine or a charge for a damaged or lost item should be discussed with the Coordinator, LRC Services, Learning Resources Center, 3408/3410 Haley Center.
REGULAR CIRCULATING MATERIALS (except "Reserve" items):
The following may be checked out as per these loan periods:
Books 14 class days
Nonprint (games, kits, maps, filmstrips, pictures, records, etc.) 14 class days
Computer software/Magazines/Videos 1 day/overnight*
Tests/test kits Special due date
* These items may be checked out for longer period of time upon request.
Regular circulating materials may be renewed one time, if no one else has requested the item. The item to be renewed must be returned to the LRC Information/Circulation Desk to be renewed. Materials cannot be renewed by telephone.
The total number of LRC items a user may have checked out at one time is limited to 12 items.
RESERVE MATERIALS:
The length of time "Reserve" items may be checked out varies and is determined by the faculty member who places these materials on reserve. The types of loan periods for reserve items may be as follows:
Room Use Only (does not leave the LRC)
Overnight
3-Day Use
OVERDUE FINES:
- A LRC user will be assessed a fine when an item is not returned on or before its due date. The fines for overdue items are as follows:
Books $0.25/day/item
Nonprint (games, kits, pictures, sound filmstrips, audiotapes, etc.). $0.25/day/item
Computer software/Videotapes $1.00/day/item
Magazines $0.50/day/item
Tests/test kits $1.00/day/item
- There are no "Grace Periods" for overdue items/materials.
- Fines will accrue until a maximum of $10.00 per item. Saturdays, Sundays, and all official Auburn University holidays will not be considered when computing fines.
- Any material/item that is 30 days overdue shall be declared lost and the LRC user shall be assessed replacement charges. No fines are charged for lost items. See LOST MATERIALS/ITEMS below.
- When an item becomes overdue, the LRC user will be notified in writing (FIRST OVERDUE NOTICE). If the item is not returned and the fine not paid within 14 days of the original date due for the item, then a SECOND OVERDUE NOTICE will be sent. If the LRC user fails to clear the overdue/fine after the date as specified in the SECOND OVERDUE NOTICE, a delinquent report will be sent to the Bursar's Collection Office for billing. At this time a $10.00 collection fee will be assessed.
- When a LRC user returns overdue items and does not clear the overdue fine, an OVERDUE FINE NOTICE is sent. If the fine is not paid within 14 days of this notice, a SECOND OVERDUE FINE NOTICE is sent. If the fine is not paid within 14 days of the Second Notice, a delinquent report will be sent to the Bursar's Collection Office for billing. At this time a $10.00 collection fee will be assessed.
LOST MATERIALS/ITEMS:
- Any item/material not returned/renewed within 30 calendar days of its due date is considered lost.
- A LRC user will be notified once in writing of any materials/items that may be considered lost. This notice shall include the following:
- Actual replacement cost for the item
- Appropriate sales tax amount
- Restocking/processing fee ($15.00 per item)
- Final date for this charge to be paid at the LRC
- If the amount owed for lost materials/items is not cleared by the final date as per the written notice, then a delinquent report will be sent to the Bursar's Collection Office for billing. At this time a $10.00 collection fee will be assessed.
- If lost materials/items are found and returned to the LRC within 30 days of paying the lost charges at the LRC (3408/3410 Haley Center), then a refund in the amount of the actual replacement cost for the item(s) can be made. A refund must be requested in writing to the Director, Learning Resources Center, and it should include the LRC user's ID number and the address to which a refund should be sent. Refunds are processed through the Bursar's Office and take several days to be processed.
- If lost materials/items are found within 30 days after the delinquent report has been sent to the Bursar's Collection Office and not yet cleared with the Bursar, then an attempt to adjust the delinquent account with the Bursar will be made. Such action requires a written request be made by the LRC user to the Director, Learning Resources Center. This request must include the LRC user's name and ID number. Only the actual replacement cost of the lost materials/items will be adjusted. There is no guarantee the Bursar will adjust a bill, but the LRC will make the effort to get the bill adjusted.
- No refund and/or adjustment will be made if an account is more than 90 calendar days old from the date of the FIRST OVERDUE NOTICE.
