Segun algunos geneologos el nombre de Llanes nació con la Villa de Llanes en el Siglo XIII (aproximadamente en el año 1206) y quizás provenga de Janus el cual es tambien un Dios Romano.

Segun la leyenda, que es frequentemente disputada, algunos de los fundadores de la Villa de Llanes vinieron a estas costas desde Grecia invitados por Alfonso IX de León para poblar y defender sus alrededores. Fueron tan efectivos que esta Villa nunca cayó en manos Arabes, otorgándose a los residentes el nombre de Llanes y su escudo guerreroa

Debido a que el nombre de Llanes fue creado por Decreto Real, en teoría, todos con el nombre Llanes son descendientes de los que originalmente tomaran ése nombre en esta Villa. Otros variantes que suenan similar como Yañes, Yañez y Yanes provienen del idioma Vasco. Documentos de la empresa Real Antillas de Madrid, contienen documentos sobre mas de 300 hombres con apellido Llanes, zarpando en sus barcos con destino fuera de España.

Otros Llaniscos se encuentran entre los soldados enviados a las Filipinas*, Santo Domingo, Cuba y Puerto Rico. Otros tambien se cuentan como marineros que no regresaron as sus tierras. Esos iban hacia veinte paises del mundo mayormente Mexico, Panama y Argentina.

La moderna imigracion hacia las antillas tambien contiene un gran numero de Llanes. A propósito, hay sólo un puñado de Llanes en Llanes.

According to geneological data, somewhat in dispute, the name Llanes was created in the Thirteenth Century (approximately 1206), probably from the the name Janus which is a Greek name and also the name of a Roman God.

According to legend some of the founders of this village came to this beautiful area from Greece invited by Alfonso IX in order to increment fisheries and defend its environs. They were so effective, so goes the legend, that this village never fell to Arab conquest, resulting in the residents being awarded the Spanish name and the Coat of Arms under which they fought the invading armies.

Because the name Llanes was created by decree, in theory, all those with the name Llanes are related to the original settlers of this Village but not necessarily to each other. Other variants such as Yañes, Yañez and Yanes come from the Basque language and the Visigoths who also occupied this area and so the name may come from those sources.

Sailing logs from the Real Antillas in Madrid show that over 300 males named Llanes left in ships outbound from Spain. Some went as millitary conscripts to the Phillipines*, Santo Domingo, Cuba and Puerto Rico. Others were sailors who settled in Mexico, Panama and Argentina.

By the way, there are very few people named Llanes in Llanes.
