The Sun Belt Writing Project is a National Writing Project site promoting the teaching of writing to improve learning in America's schools.

Sun Belt's first recipe book, Stories from the Stovetop, published early in 2007, was so successful that we're doing it again! Plans are moving forward to have a second edition published later this fall. But it can't happen without you!  We are still in need of submissions. I have two or three so far--it's a start, but we need many more!

Of course, at Sun Belt we're all about the food, but as writers we dig deeper and find the story or poem behind our favorite dishes. What memories do your favorite foods trigger? From the simplest foods, like peanut butter sandwiches prepared by a loving parent, to more complicated dishes like turkey dinners, breads, and desserts prepared by  grandparents or aunts and uncles, to Dad's summer grilling secrets, there are stories waiting to be told. Perhaps there is a favorite dish you like to prepare for Sun Belt events. Or something quick you think busy teachers would appreciate. There are so many possibilities!

I would like to have all submissions by September 2 (the day after Labor Day). With enough submissions by that date, we could get it out by Christmas--imagine being able to give Stories from the Stovetop II to friends and family as gifts! Or curling up in a cozy spot at Winter-Into-Spring retreat with a fresh copy of Stories. It's possible!

Stories from the Stovetop II is a Sun Belt fundraiser. 100% of the money raised by sales of Stories from the Stovetop II will benefit Sun Belt.

Please start sending your recipes and stories to Angela at: ellisa76@bellsouth.net
