A More Usable Web

With the rapid increase use of internet technology by educational institutions, access to information becomes one the greatist barrier facing students with disabilities. If these barriers are not addressed by administrators, instructors and IT specialist, students and employees with disabilities will be denied participation on the basis of their disability and not their capability. This site will address the Section 508 web standards and other coding techniques to improve the usability of websites.

Links are available on this page that direct you to the Auburn University Web policy and the Federal government Web sites on Section 508. The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) link will take you to the draft version of WCAG 2.0 guidelines. A List Apart link is an online magazine that addresses good design techniques and WebXACT is a web page validator that checks pages for accessibility errors. The remaining links will address some of the do's and don'ts of web design and provide specific coding techniques.
