Richard M. Freeman, M.D., is the recipient of the 2019 Paul W. Burleson Award from the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. This prestigious award is given to a physician member with a “medical career that encompasses not only high ethical and professional standards in patient care, but also includes extraordinary service to physician organizations at the county, state and national levels.”

Dr. Freeman serves on the East Alabama Medical Center Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.  He mentors students in Auburn University’s College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) who are interested in becoming physicians. He has also lectured for the Pediatric Curriculum at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), and is a preceptor for third and fourth year VCOM medical students. He is a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA.

“I enjoy mentoring COSAM students because they are enthusiastic and eager to learn about a career in medicine,” Dr. Freeman shared. “It is important for me to be able pass along (give back) to students the principles that I have learned over the years about communicating with and reassuring patients.”
