Dr. Sarit Dhar Selected for 5 Sigma Physicist Award from the American Physical Society

Dr. Sarit Dhar, an associate professor in the Department of Physics, has been selected to receive the 5 Sigma Physicist Award for “performing outstanding advocacy that is crucial to maintaining the strength of U.S. scientific enterprise” as mentioned in APS News, June 2019.

Dr. Dhar penned an op-ed piece, Immigrants like me help Alabama, about the F-1 visa issue. In APS News, he explained:

“I believe having formal pathways for dialogue between the scientific community and policymakers is crucially important for prioritizing resource allocation and directions of science and technology research to meet the demands of the socio-economic and security needs of our country's future.”

Originally from India, Dr. Dhar wrote in his op-ed, “I take great pride in training the workforce and contributing to America’s economy.” He shared the important role that immigrants have in our economy and how “dual intent” visas could make a difference for students and their future.
