Dr. Ming Liao, a professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM), teaches mathematics to both undergraduate and graduate students at Auburn University. After completing his doctorate degree at Stanford University, he has spent the last three decades pursuing his passion. In addition to being a professor, his research interest involves probability theory including stochastic processes in Lie groups and manifolds.

“I enjoy helping students learn about mathematics and increasing their knowledge in this field,” said Dr. Liao. “I also make incremental contributions to research in our department.”

On Friday, March 15, 2019, Dr. Liao gave a lecture, just one of three plenary addresses, at this year’s Spring Southeastern Sectional Meeting of the American Mathematical Society. More than 500 people attended this event at Auburn University.

“I am proud that I was recommended by my own peers to give this address,” he said. “I have been to this event and attended sessions throughout my career. This is the first time I have ever given a major lecture at this conference and it is being held right here at our university.”
