Clontz ran the first annual Lamar (University) Mathematical Puzzle (LaMP) Challenge
Published on: April 27, 2015

Steven Clontz ran the first annual Lamar Mathematical Puzzle (LaMP) Challenge at Lamar University (Beaumont, TX) on April 25, 2015. He was asked to design and run this event by our alum PJ Couch, an Assistant Professor at Lamar University.

The LaMP Challenge is based upon Auburn's AMP'd Challenge competition created by Braxton Carrigan (our alum, now an Assistant Professor at Southern Connecticut State University) and Steven in 2012. This event continues to run each fall in coordination with the COSAM Outreach office, and is designed and organized by our graduate student leadership.

In conjunction with the LaMP event, Braxton and Steven gave invited talks at Lamar on April 24 (2015). Braxton spoke on choosing problems for undergraduate research, and Steven spoke on connections between mathematical puzzles and active/inquiry-based learning.
