Sophos VirusScan

Auburn University is now offering Sophos Anti-Virus for use on Faculty/Staff/Student machines.  Please select the applicable instructions below for your computer.  If you use a laptop primarily on campus, please choose an On-Campus option.

Microsoft Windows Automatic Installation

  1.   to send an e-mail to COSAM IT.  Your IP address should already be in the body of the message.  If you know your computer's name, please put it in the e-mail as well.  Otherwise, send the e-mail as is. 
  2. If you are not logging into the domain, you will need to add your computer to the Auburn domain.  If you are logged into the domain, you may skip this step. 
    1. Instructions for joining the Auburn domain. 
  3. Make sure you have e-mailed the information from Step 1 above.  With this information, we can automatically install Sophos VirusScan for you.






     

Microsoft Windows Manual Installation

  1. Click here  to send an e-mail to COSAM IT.  Your IP address should already be in the body of the message.  If you know your computer's name, please put it in the e-mail as well.  Otherwise, send the e-mail as is. 
  2. Download and run the Sophos Installer.  This application will uninstall McAfee Anti-Virus and its associated Agent.  It will then install Sophos Anti-Virus.


     

Apple Macintosh OS X Manual Installation

  1. Click here  to send an e-mail to COSAM IT.  Your IP address should already be in the body of the message.  If you know your computer's name, please put it in the e-mail as well.  Otherwise, send the e-mail as is. 

  2.  Download this disk image

  3. Inside the disk image you will see two files, Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg and VirusScan Uninstall.command

  4. First open Terminal (applications/utilities) and drag the ViruScan Uninstall.command file into the Terminal window to run it. This will remove all installations of MacAfee VirusScan from your computer.

  5. Next run the Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg file, and follow all prompts in order to install it.

Note – there may be a long period after you run the sophos install where it seems like nothing is happening.  Don’t worry, that is normal.  When you see the blue shield in your top bar, sophos should be working correctly.

Linux/Unix Manual Installation
