Arboretum Photo Contest 2016

Take your best shot, and get it ready for the Arboretum’s annual Arbor Day Photo Contest! 

Entries will be displayed on Auburn University’s main campus in the Rouse Life Science Building from April 18th – April 27th. Winners will be announced at a National Arbor Day Reception to be held in the Rouse LSB Rotunda from 4:00 – 5:00 pm on April 27th.  


  • Categories: Photos must be taken in Alabama.
    1. Tree- **New Category**  Portraits of trees for Arbor Day; big or small, young or old, judges prefer native species. 
    2. Arboretum People– ** New Category** Share moments you’ve experienced with friends or family in the Davis Arboretum (with permission of the people in the photo).  
    3. Flora – Flowers, foliage, fruit, other parts of plants.
    4. Wildlife – Any subject from the animal kingdom
    5. Other – Fungi, lichens, landscapes, Photoshop wizardry, etc.
  • Photos must be taken in Alabama.
  • There should be no man-made objects visible in the photograph (e.g. fence posts, walls, or benches).   An exception to this rule will be in the Arboretum People category.
  • The contest is open to any amateur photographer.  An amateur is defined as someone who does not earn most of his/her living from photography.

The entry fee is $5.00 per photo

All participants will receive a long leaf pine seedling for entering the contest.

Awards will be given for 1st  ($75.00), 2nd ($50.00) and 3rd ($25.00) place in each category.  

A cash award is given in the Arboretum People category and gift certificates to Cameragraphics or equivalent prizes will be awarded in all other categories. Participants can receive a maximum of 3 each year. All winners in the Tree category will be allowed to choose a rare species of Alabama native oak tree from the Arboretum Nursery.

The Arboretum would like to exhibit select photographs in the Arboretum’s display cases through the rest of the spring. Photographs and Long leaf pine seedlings may be picked up April 28th and 29th at the Davis Arboretum Pavilion between 9am – 5pm. To make other arrangements call 844-5770.

Entries may be dropped off April 11th – 14th at the Arboretum between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm or at Cameragraphics between 9 am and 6 pm.   

We reserve the right to exclude any entry from the show.
