The Office of Research and Innovation plays an integral role in helping faculty aggressively pursue extramural funding opportunities.

During Fall 2008, the office worked with faculty members on eight proposals for the fiscal year 2010 Federal Agenda. Of the eight original proposals, four were selected for inclusion in the Auburn University Federal Agenda book used by administration to seek federal funding. One has been included in the Federal Agenda.

From July 15, 2008, to July 14, 2009, faculty in the College of Education submitted 40 grant proposals and requested more than $20.3 million in funding. To date, the College of Education has been notified of 12 funded proposals for a total award amount of more than $4.8 million and $6.1 million in total project costs.

During the reporting period, faculty in the college also served as co-principal investigators on 17 proposal submissions from Auburn University. These 17 collaborative proposals add an additional $16.1 million in total requested sponsor funding. This brings the total requested sponsor funding in the college during this 12-month period to $36.5 million.

Overall, there has been a sharp increase in the number of proposal submissions during the 12-month reporting period. College faculty serving as principal investigators submitted 40 proposals for the 2008-09 reporting period, well above the seven-year average of 19 proposals submitted. Counting collaborative proposals in which college faculty serve as co-principal investigators or co-investigators, the total for the past year rises to 57.
