The General Science Education Program is designed to prepare general science teachers for secondary grades 6-12. The program includes course work in general science. Professional education coursework addresses theory-based as well as pedagogical content knowledge and skills necessary to become an effective general science teacher who is a reflective practitioner, exhibits professionalism, and promotes equity, social justice, and diversity in the science classroom.  

Accreditation and Approvals

Auburn University holds regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Auburn University’s College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The bachelor’s, master’s, and specialist programs in Science Education are approved by the Alabama State Board of Education. In addition, the State of Alabama signs the National Association of State Directors of Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement which facilitates the applications of graduates when they apply for certification in other states.
