Physics Education

The Secondary Physics Education program is designed to prepare students to teach physics at the secondary grades 6-12. The program includes coursework in physics and supporting science and additional courses provide the knowledge that prospective teachers need to teach required and elective courses in state-approved physics education programs. Professional education coursework addresses theory-based as well as pedagogical content knowledge and skills necessary to become an effective and successful science educator.

Accreditation and Approvals

Auburn University holds regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Auburn University’s College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The bachelor’s, master’s, and specialist programs in Science Education are approved by the Alabama State Board of Education. In addition, the State of Alabama signs the National Association of State Directors of Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement which facilitates the applications of graduates when they apply for certification in other states.
