Biology Education

The Secondary Science Education Program is designed to prepare biology/general science teachers for secondary grades 6-12. The program includes coursework in biology/general science and supporting science and additional courses provide the knowledge that prospective teachers need to teach required and elective courses in state-approved biology programs. Professional education coursework addresses theory-based as well as pedagogical content knowledge and skills necessary to become an effective and successful science educator.

Accreditation and Approvals

Auburn University holds regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Auburn University’s College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The master’s and specialist programs in Science Education are approved by the Alabama State Board of Education. In addition, the State of Alabama signs the National Association of State Directors of Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement which facilitates the applications of graduates when they apply for certification in other states.
