As graduation looms in the near future, many college students worry about finding a job under increasingly competitive conditions.
The Auburn University Career Center offers College of Education students prime opportunities to impress potential employers. The first session of the biannual Education Interview Day will be held on March 5 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.
Education Interview Day, held once in the fall and spring, is a day for students in the College of Education, and others seeking full-time positions, to meet and interview with school system recruiters from Alabama and other neighboring states, including Alabama and Tennessee. Many of these school systems attend the event year after year.
On the exit survey from the fall 2012 Education Interview Day, school system recruiters consistently praised the overall excitement and preparation of Auburn students.
“These school systems see the quality of our students and the way they present themselves well. They’re prepared and that makes them stand out,” said Melvin K. Smith, special events coordinator for the AU Career Center.
Student registration lasts from 8-9 a.m., and students are able to schedule interviews with different school systems from 9-10 a.m. The student interviews take place throughout the day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Interviews vary in length depending on the school system, with many lasting between 15-30 minutes.
“I would advise students to be the best they can be for these interviews. Be the best dressed from head to toe. You need to make that good first impression,” Smith said.
There is a professional dress tip sheet, an Education Interview Day preparation tip sheet and resume help links located on the Career Center’s website .
