Middle school and high school students with disabilities, and their families, will have an opportunity to learn more about the resources and services available to them during a Transition Expo co-hosted by graduate students in the Collaborative Approach to Training Transition Specialists (CATTS) program and the Auburn Transition Leadership Institute
.
The expo is scheduled for Thursday, October 27, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Student Center's third floor ballroom. The keynote speakers for the event are Nathan Waters and Jared Rehm from the Auburn University Program for Students with Disabilities.
Students and their families will have an opportunity to meet with local community agency representatives to learn more about the services available to them after high school. These services assist students in post-secondary environments involving education, employment, leisure and daily living. Among the agencies sending representatives to the event are the Auburn University Center for Disability Research and Service, Independent Living, the One Stop Career Center, the Social Security Administration, Auburn University's Program for Students with Disabilities
and Southern Union Community College's Program for Students with Disabilities.
The College of Education's CATTS program, which is co-hosting the event, trains secondary special education teachers to improve the outcomes of high school students with disabilities. The Auburn Transition Leadership Institute helps youth with disabilities successfully integrate into community life by providing resources to the systems, practitioners and individuals who help them during their respective "transitions'' to adulthood.
