Dr. Cynthia Reed, director of the Auburn University College of Education's Truman Pierce Institute and a full professor in the Department of Educational Foundations, Leadership and Technology, has been selected to serve on the executive committee of the University Council for Educational Administration.
The UCEA
is a non-profit corporation that is dedicated to improving the preparation and practice of educational leaders in order to enrich schools and children. It is the top scholarly association in the field of educational leadership and its membership consists of faculty from major research universities in the United States and Canada.
As a member of the executive committee, Reed hopes to use her three-year term to improve leadership preparation and ensure that legislators are aware of critical educational issues.
Dr. Frances Kochan, dean of the College of Education, and the late Dr. Truman Pierce, who served as dean of the college for two decades, are both former presidents of UCEA.
Reed has served as director of the Truman Pierce Institute since 2002. She serves as a commissioner on the education committee of the Governor's Black Belt Action Commission. Reed earned a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh in administrative and policy studies with specialization in educational policy, planning and evaluation. Before coming to Auburn in 1997, Reed accumulated nearly 20 years of experience as a public school teacher, specialist in gifted education, middle school principal and director of collaborative programs for multiple K-12 settings and institutions of higher learning.
