EFFECTIVE DATE: Fall Semester 2013
POSITION: Non-tenured position as Clinical Assistant Professor in Reading Education
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Reading Education and other related areas according to expertise; supervise internships and practica; advise students; assist with extramural funding and implementation of grant projects; take an active role in partnerships with school systems and academic life in the department.
Auburn University's Reading Education Program, situated in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, prepares individuals who can provide essential literacy tools for lifelong learning. The program includes courses that focus on evidence-based theory and practice based on scientific studies of reading. Course curricula are matched to Alabama state standards, which emphasize the objectives of the Alabama Reading Initiative. The Department of Curriculum and Teaching is a supportive and collaborative academic environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Doctorate (or ABD) in Reading Education or a related field; evidence of at least 3 years successful full-time teaching experience in USA K-12 schools; proficiency teaching with technology; excellent communications skills.
Preferred: Evidence of superior teaching; demonstrated interest in teaching university reading education courses; experience in supervising internships or clinical field experiences; experience teaching via distance technologies.
RANK/SALARY: Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track, nine-month contract) at a salary commensurate with experience and other qualifications. Minimum one-year contract, renewable yearly based on need, funding and performence. Individuals hired ABD will be hired as instructors until they receive their terminal degree, no later than 8/16/2013.
