Non-tenured Clinical Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Education

EFFECTIVE DATE: Spring 2013

POSITION: Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenured) in Early Childhood Education

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Early Childhood Education; supervise internships and practica; advise graduate and undergraduate students; assist with proposals for extramural funding and implementation of grant projects; take an active role in academic life in the department; participate in collaborations with school partners and faculty in Special Education and other departments in the College of Education. 

Auburn University's program in Early Childhood Education combines strong theoretical grounding in constructivism and other contemporary learning theories and complementary field components.  Emphasis is placed on an integrated curriculum. The Department of Curriculum and Teaching is a supportive and collaborative academic environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:  Doctorate or ABD in Early Childhood Education or a related field with significant preparation in Early Childhood; evidence of several years successful teaching experience in schools serving children from preschool to grade three; excellent communications skills.

 Preferred:  Evidence of superior teaching; demonstrated interest in and knowledge of child development theories through research or practica; experience in or preparation for cross-departmental collaborations with Special Education and possibly other departments; involvement in grants and funded projects; evidence of active membership in a professional organization, preferably NAEYC or ACEI; working knowledge of NAEYC Standards for Early Childhood programs.

RANK/SALARY: Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track, nine-month contract) at a salary commensurate with experience and other qualifications.  Individuals hired ABD will be hired as instructors until they receive their terminal degree, no later than 8/16/2013.
