Writing Connections

Auburn University hosted the Sun Belt Writing Project from 1981 until 2010 as part of the National Writing Project. NWP is a professional development organization focused on the enhancement of teachers’ proficiency for advancing student achievement in writing skills. After funding ended in June 2010, the College of Education undertook an exploratory study to determine the feasibility of reapplying for a new writing project site at Auburn University. This initiative resulted in Truman Pierce Institute becoming the new project site under the direction of Dr. Reed who is currently exploring potential funding opportunities. Throughout the 2010-2011 academic year, TPI is hosting activities similar to those previously offered through the Sun Belt Writing Project. A fall retreat was held in October 2010 and a spring writing event was held on March 26, 2011. Upcoming events include a book discussion on “Because Digital Writing Matters,” and end of the year celebration at the Auburn Hotel and Conference Center. Check the TPI website regularly for updated dates and times of Writing Connections’ events!
