Topics to be addressed in this Trainer of Trainers: Substitute Teachers workshop include professionalism, appropriate attire, following the lesson plan, implementing a discipline plan that focuses on routines & procedures, & how to prepare for the day & close out the day. Information will be provided for helping substitutes create a “bag of tricks” to help get them through any substituting assignment. Material will be provided to each Trainer of Trainers for use in his/her school.

The workshop will explore the research of Dr. Ruby K. Payne on the effects of poverty on education. Given the present economic status of the USA, understanding poverty and its impact is imperative to educators being able to effectively prepare students for college and beyond. Educators must be able to empower and inspire students to move beyond the grips of poverty. This workshop will focus on the impact of poverty on academics & the behaviors of students in grades K through 12. Participants will leave with practical strategies that can be applied in the classroom to empower and inspire students to achieve academic success.

In this session, participants will actively participate in exploring formative assessment research and its practical application in the classroom setting as a strategy for instruction and for student learning. This session is designed to deepen teachers’ and leaders’ understanding of what formative assessment is and how it should be used as an instructional strategy. Participants will learn how formative assessment informs both teachers & students about student understanding during the learning process and how it is assessment for learning rather than assessment of learning.  Instructional strategy both teachers and students become assessors of the learning in a classroom.
