From the Chairman:
The College of Education's National Advisory Council is an organization composed of a maximum of 40 College of Education alumni and friends of the college appointed by the dean. Prospective members are nominated by current advisory council members, and by faculty and staff, in the College of Education. Members volunteer their service on the advisory council by serving as a member of one of four major standing committees -- Academic Affairs, Internal Relations, External Relations, and Development. In addition, members of the advisory council attend two general meetings each year, one in the fall semester, and one in the spring semester. They also attend events and functions sponsored by the College of Education, and often participate in activities associated with those events and functions. Advisory Council members also offer their expertise and vast experience to the faculty and to the dean of the College of Education by participating, upon request, in the classroom, and at seminars, conferences, and institutes.
It is my distinct pleasure to serve as chairman of the National Advisory Council. I have been a member of the advisory council for the past five years, and was appointed in spring 2011, by Dean Betty Lou Whitford, to serve a three year term as chairman, beginning in fall 2011. I welcome the opportunity to serve in this capacity because it gives me an opportunity to give back to my alma mater for the excellent education I received at Auburn University. The educational foundation I received at Auburn allowed me to pursue a successful career in the field of education.
National Advisory Council members are truly ambassadors of the College of Education. We support the administration, faculty, and staff in their efforts to achieve the mission of the College as it relates to excellence in teaching, cutting edge research, and meaningful outreach. Serving on the advisory council allows the members to keep up to date with the current educational programs and services of the College of Education. Members are encouraged to offer advice regarding educational programs and community outreach services of the College of Education. In addition, advisory council members personally fund research and outreach efforts of the College of Education faculty by contributing to a mini-grant fund.
