School Counseling Mentorship Program

The School Counseling Mentorship Program offers a unique opportunity for incoming school counseling students. Developed in Fall 2009, this program aims to meet the needs of the majority of the School Counseling students coming into the program from diverse non-educational majors.

The students who voluntarily participate in the program have an opportunity to access the role of practicing school counselors and engage in activities of a k-12 school counseling program before starting their practicum placement. For the 2009-2010 school year, six practicing school counselors and seven first year school counseling program master’s students participated in the program.

Currently, eight school counselors from local area schools have committed to serve as mentors for 16 first year school counseling students as mentees.
