AuburnVoices during 2009 - 2010 worked to develop cooperative programs with area schools identified as at-risk (e.g., Notasulga) and mentor student leaders and organizations in advocacy promotion and development. The following are just some selected highlights during the year:

Projects/Resources Supported by COE Student Organizations:

  • College of Education Student Council: Grade 2 Math. "Journals (Snip It, Stick It, Solve It)"

  • IOTA DELTA SIGMA:  Grade 5 "An Evening at the Theatre." Students will eat dinner out and attend a theatrical production of "Harriet's Return."

  • Student Alabama Education Association (SAEA): Grades 7 - 9  Social Studies: "Map Skills"

  • Counseling Students: Grade K - 12 Counseling Activities. "Classroom Guidance Books and resources"

  • Association of Counseling Psychology Students (ACOPS): Grades K - 12 Phys Ed. "Physical Education equipment and resources"


Training Provided by AuburnVoices:

  • Faculty Advisor Luncheon and Training in conjunction with Peggy Dagley, COE Deans Office

  • Student Organization Training and Luncheon: Sessions conducted with all student leaders in the Fall and one-on-one training and mentoring with student organizations Fall/Spring

  • Fundraising Training - Fall 2009: Student Organizations

  • Grant Writing Workshop - Spring 2010: Teachers

  • Student Leaders Grant Writing Workshop - Spring 2010: students and student leaders from across campus and in COE participated in this training

Grants:

Laura M. Bush Foundation for America's Libraries; AL State Dept of Education Grant - focused on preparing student leaders in areas of advocacy and working with students with special needs.

Goals 2010-2011:

  • Continue to foster leadership and advocacy through training, mentoring, and development of student leaders in the College of Education.

  • Continue to enhance and develop collaborative relationships with schools and community program, expanding the schools and programs served.

  • Continue identifying grant and outreach opportunities and involving COE students in this process.
