Welcome to the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and Counseling |
Auburn University's Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and Counseling's principal mission is to provide quality programs of instruction, research, and outreach. Instruction, research, and outreach activities that result in competent, committed, reflective professionals who desire to make a significant contribution to society as special educators, rehabilitation and counseling practitioners. With a strong commitment to diversity, faculty, staff, and students are challenged to support and promote diversity-related instruction, scholarship, outreach, and professional activities. Our academic programs are accredited by:
With multiple accredited programs from which to choose, many opportunities and resources are available to our current students. Our instructional units are exceptionally strong and currently serve over 400 students who are enrolled in undergraduate, masters, or doctoral programs. Our research productivity is held in high regard. Currently departmental faculty are actively involved in contributing to the professional literature of their respective professions, presenting research findings at major national conferences, and directing federal and state grants totaling more than $4 million extramural dollars competitively secured in the last few years. We are also very proud of our outreach efforts through which our faculty shares their expertise beyond the university walls. Over the years our faculty have been involved in numerous significant social justice projects and for twenty years our Auburn Transition Leadership Institute has presented an annual transition conference.
It is because of our faculty and staff that SERC is highly regarded. We are indeed privileged to be a part of the Auburn University community. Changing Times, Peterson's College Guide, and U.S. News and World Report all designate Auburn University as one of America's top collegiate bargains regarding its national reputation, quality of degree programs, and costs. And, in a recent edition of Yahoo! Internet Life, Auburn was voted as one of the 25 "Best Wired" universities in the country.
