Is the academe

the place for archival studies?

SCOT:

MARK:
I think that practical work experience is where most of the learning takes place as far as how to do the job and handle the problems that arise. But, to learn the theory and methods of the field, I think that the classroom is the better. A healthy mix of two is best. In the classroom you are not focusing on that one job or specific problems that occur in that job. In the field you will see problems and issues that you won't cover in the classroom.

JEFF: Absolutely.
Academic training and professionalization are needed in the field of archivy.
