Tip. On forward steps, keep your body upright, and don't overwhelm your partner. Sometimes, she can feel like an ocean swimmer suddenly tumbled over by a big breaker. Similarly, on back steps, maintain forward poise.

Right - Left - Right Triple to the Right

1

Left foot Crosses over to Right

2

Rock Back onto Right

3 & 4

Left - Right - Left Triple step to the Left

Tip. In this variation, the rock step goes across the body, instead of forward and backwards. Everything else stays the same.

Although the figure may begin in closed position or with a two-hand hold, it will be necessary to release the hand that is farther away from your partner as you turn to side-by-side position. The free arm may then extend outward or it may be held closer to the body when space is limited.

Cross-Over Break with Under Arm Turn:  After 3rd cross over, man holds and raises lady's R hand with his L hand, Lady does L slow turning out, R pivot slow to face partner and cha cha cha.  Man does 4th cross-over break.  Can also do a lady's Under Arm Turn inside direction--man leads into this by crossing held hand to lady's L side (man's R) and lifting arm up for lady to go under.  Another variation is that both can turn outside under raised joined arms.

Tip. Spot Turns can be danced in a variety of ways: Man and lady turning at the same time, man turning lady underarm, or one partner turning while the other dances a Time Step, just to name a few. But as a figure, Spot Turns are generally danced by both man and lady at the same time. The Spot Turn in this context is danced completely solo by both man and lady, so it will be necessary to release both connected hands. However, one hand connection should remain until the turn has been led. It is recommended that you use the hand that is closer to the direction of turn for this purpose.

1 Right foot Backward

Tip. The forward triple follows a back basic for the lead. This can be followed by a backward triple in reverse direction, in which the lady completes a forward triple.

Count Woman's Part (traveling to the LEFT)

1

2

Rock Back onto Right

3 & 4

Left - Right - Left Triple step to the Left

Tip. In this variation, the rock step goes behind the body,, instead of forward and backwards (like the 5th position in ballet). Everything else stays the same.

As in the cross over breaks, it will be necessary to release the hand that is farther away from your partner as you turn to side-by-side position. The free arm may then extend outward (as shown in video clip), or it may be held closer to the body when space is limited.

As tempting as it is to thrust the joined-hand through as you turn to side-by-side position, try to avoid this, as it diminishes the connection. The best position for the joined hand is hip-level.

Tip. Man initiates the chase any time his L foot is free, usually after 2 Basics. Man steps forward on L pivoting to face 180 degrees (faces away from partner), with weight transferred to R foot.  This is the cue for the lady that the Chase has begun.

The man and lady use the same foot work, but the lady starts one measure after the man.
