Mix and Pour LOGO

 Problem Statement:

This is your first group project. Get to know your fellow group members.
Select a leader / spokesperson. Exchange phone #'s, e-mail addresses.
Design and build a model concrete LOGO advertising a Design-Build firm working exclusively in concrete buildings. Think of the model as a mock-up for a concrete signpost outside your company offices.

 Requirements:

48 cu in. of un-reinforced concrete composed of:

• Sand
• Small Gravel (Pea Gravel)
• Portland Cement
• Water

NOTE: All Materials are available in small quantities from LOWES. Do not use ready-mix, or pre mixed cement.

Mix Proportions: 1Water/2Cement/3Aggregrate by weight
Water/Cement Ratio: No greater than 0.5 by weight
Sign must identify purpose and members of your company.
Casting must be prismatic – no curves
Casting must be freestanding and stable. Stability will be tested in class.
Try to make surface free of defects, honeycombing, and discoloration.

Report/Evaluation Considerations:

• Submit sign and formwork for grading.
• Submit neat design sketches, including dimensions
• Submit mix proportions by weight.
• Final weight of model.
• Final weight of formwork.
• Create formwork so that it can be easily removed and reused.
• Projects evaluated on craftsmanship, design, aesthetics, formwork simplicity, etc.
