Introductory Courses

HA 2200. HEALTH POLICY (3 hours). Political issues affecting health care services. Prerequisite: POLI 1090 or POLI 2100.

HADM 3300. INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (3 hours). Basic concepts and principles of administration of health services organizations. Prerequisite: POLI 1090 or POLI 2100.

HADM 3700. LEGAL STRUCTURE OF HEALTH ADMIN (3 hours). Legal issues that arise between patients and health care providers. Prerequisite:POLI 1090 or POLI 2100.


Intermediate Courses

HADM 4000. DEVELOPING HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATIONS (3 hours). Organizational strategies for effective interfacing of medical, nursing, allied health and administrative staff with patient needs. Prerequisite: HADM 2200 or 3300 and MATH 1690.

HADM 4100. FINANCE IN HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (3 hours). Review of issues in reimbursement structures, regulatory mechanisms, cost control, and related factors affecting administration of health services organizations. Prerequisite: HADM 2200 or 3300 and MATH 1690.

HADM 4200. MANAGED CARE (3 hours). Basics of managed care. State regulations, managed care models, physician's contracting, patient utilization and satisfaction. Prerequisite: HADM 2200 or 3300 and MATH 1690.


Advanced Seminars and Special Problems Courses (4800-4900)

Note: Courses in this category should generally be taken relatively late in an HADM major's academic career, after most required HADM courses have been taken.

HSA majors must take at least three classses from the 4800-series seminars, and/or Special Topics or Directed Studies. See your HA adviser for further information.


HADM 4800. HEALTH ADMINISTRATION AND REGULATION (3 hours). Government regulatory programs affecting administration of health services organizations. Prerequisite: HADM 2200 and HADM 3300.

HADM 4810. CHANGE IN HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (3 hours). Changes in modern technology, cultural diversity, and governmental policies affecting the administration of health services organizations. Prerequisite: HADM 2200 and HADM 3300.

HADM 4820. LONG-TERM CARE ADMINISTRATION (3 hours). Analysis of the components (e.g. nursing homes, home health care) of the long-term care system for the elderly. Prerequisite: HADM 2200 and HADM 3300.

HADM 4830. COMPARATIVE PUBLIC HEALTH CARE FINANCE (3 hours). Comprehensive analysis of the financing, management and political structure of leading international health care systems. Prerequisite: HADM 2200 and HADM 3300.

HADM 4850. LONG-TERM CARE POLICY (3 hours). Policy issues surrounding the provision of long-term care to the elderly. Prerequisite: HADM 2200 and HADM 3300.

HADM 4920. INTERNSHIP (6 hours). Internship in selected areas of Health Administration. Internships must be scheduled at least one year in advance before the actual internship. Prerequisite: Senior standing, HSA major, and GPA of at least 2.8 in HADM courses.

HADM 4930. DIRECTED STUDIES (1-3 hours). Directed studies in Health Administration. Course may be repeated for a maximum of 3 credit hours. May be taken only by prior consent of intructor.

HADM 4950. CAPSTONE SEMINAR (3 hours). Integrates knowledge from courses and internship; applies managerial and research skills to the completion of a project and the organization of a research symposium. Prerequisite: Senior standing and HADM 4000.

HADM 4960. READINGS IN HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (1-3 hours). Directed readings in Health Administration. Course may be repeated for a maximum of 6 credit hours. May be taken only by prior consent of intructor.

HADM 4970. SPECIAL TOPICS (1-3 hours). Selected topics in Health Administration. Course may be repeated for a maximum of 3 credit hours. Prerequisite: HADM 2200 and HADM 3300.
