Advising in Health Administration

Advising is an essential part of the services provided to students in the HA Program and fosters not only communication of vital information but also better understanding between HA students and those who teach in the Program.

Advisers are assigned as follows:

Important: Once a student has reached his/her Junior year, he/she should definitely begin meeting with one of these HA faculty member as an adviser, even if the student had previously been being advised by a general adviser in the College of Liberal Arts.

Faculty advisers also advise students who are seeking counselling on job opportunities and or graduate study. Dr. McEldowney directs student internships and serves as adviser to the HHAO. Dr. Burns serves as adviser to the HA Alumni Organization.

HA faculty advisers can provide information on HA courses, the HSA major, and relevant electives. Students should notify their assigned adviser concerning any changes in courses, plan of study, etc., and should consult with him/her each semester about future coursework.

In order to follow correct pre-registration and final registration procedures, students are expected to regularly check the HA Web pages, especially our Newsline, and the HA Bulletin Board (outside 7094 Haley) for relevant program developments.

Another important Web page, the HA Program Philosophy, summarizes the general orientation of the HA Program, including what students can expect of the Program and what the Program expects of them. The Program Philosophy should be carefully reviewed by any student joining the HA Program or considering doing so.
