Course Description: Geography is a field that bridges the gap between the physical and social sciences. A major focus of Geography is to understand the interrelations between humans and the environment they live in. Geography considers both the human and physical environment of the earth from a spatial perspective and organization. This course introduces basic physical and human geographical topics in a regional framework.

Geographic Information Systems

A Geographic Information System is a set of computer based systems used in the collection, analysis, and management of geographic data in order to solve spatial problems. This course introduces the fundamental concepts of a GIS and provides hands-on experience enabling the student to learn geographic techniques used to aid in decision-making processes for current and/or future endeavors.

Aerial Photography and Remote Sensing

Course Description: Remote sensing is the science of gathering data about an object from a distance. This course is a geographic methods course that focuses on using the remote sensing process to answer fundamental questions about earth processes. We will concentrate on learning methods to collect and organize data using aerial photographs, doq's, dems, and satellite imagery. We will then use these methods in some earth resource applications.

Physical Geography

Course Description: Physical geography seeks to understand the spatial dimensions of the earth's physical systems including the 4 spheres that make up these systems: atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere. The field differs from many other earth sciences in that it places an emphasis on spatial variance and considers humans in this process.
