Pines Drive-In Theatre Projection Booth
Leesville, Louisiana - circa. 1964

1963-1965, Ran projectors at a small town theatre and drive-in in Leesville, Louisiana during the high school years. Learned a great deal about "editing" during those drive-in theatre late night showings..(non-paying customers who showed up after the box office closed were noted by where they parked in the drive-in theatre lot and row number. Then later, after the paying customers had left, those non-paying "customers" were eventually shown an "edited" version of the feature running that night. Shortest feature film they ever saw I'm sure. An interesting learning and unique experience in the craft of film editing was discovered!

- 1962-1963, Paper route at Ft. Wainwright Alaska. Papers were delivered to the door step of the military post theatre for paper carriers to pick up for delivery. The projectionist of the theatre had hurt his back and needed help carrying the large metal film cannisters upstairs to the projection booth. The manager asked if I would do so the two or three days a week that the feature films would change. Back then, movies in theatres generally ran typical Sun-Mon-Tue, Wed-Thur, and Friday-Sat type of schedules. They did not run for weeks as they do now. When I first laid eyes on the projectors, my interest in the film industry was assured.
